Field Hockey:
Field Hockey has had an exciting 2021 season. As the year kicked off, the team faced a few tough losses to A-Team opponents but certainly held their own and built a strong foundation for competing. However, once the team entered their in-conference portion of the season, they began to thrive and dominate. They placed second in their conference play with five wins and one loss, allowing for a first-round bye in the playoffs. The team faced a hard loss to St. Pauls in the semi-final round of playoffs, but played through the end of the game with determination and grit. At the end of their strong season, senior captain, Madison Goldstein, says, “We all worked hard throughout the season, built relationships, and grew as field hockey players.”
Soccer:
The RPCS Varsity soccer team has had an explosive season during the fall of 2021. With a phenomenal and close-knit team, they dominated the B-Division regular season, only losing to Severn in a tight overtime and Bryn Mawr. With a 7-2 record, they entered the playoffs as the number three seed only to be defeated by Concordia in penalty kicks. In reflection at the end of season, senior captain, Meghan Green, says, “I’m nostalgic knowing it is my last time playing the sport at a competitive level and that I will not see my teammates every day after school. But at the same time, I am confident that the bonds we formed this year will extend outside of our four-month season, and into our school environment.” Although the season may not have ended the way the team planned, it was a fun-filled time with an unparalleled team environment that will last beyond the fall season.” With many lowerclassmen showing tremendous talent and the leadership of the junior class being top-notch, the future for RPCS Soccer is bright.
Volleyball:
This year, the Varsity Volleyball team had a tough go of things with a few lost scrimmages and a season that ended 3-7. They entered the playoffs as the eighth seed and lost in a crushing defeat to the number one seed, Annapolis Area Christian School. Despite the disappointing season, the volleyball team has a bright future with many young, talented players. They may not have flourished on the court, but the connection forged between the team members is unparalleled. Senior captain, Sydney Liang, described the season as “unmatched in spirit.” She said, “despite our tough schedule, everyone faced each game with a smile on their face and unwavering effort.” RPCS Volleyball will be a sports team to look out for in the years to come.
Cross country:
Varsity Cross Country had a strong 2021 season. After an impressive showing in championships, they ended their season placing 6th in the A-Conference. The top three RPCS finishers in the Varsity A Conference were juniors Ryan Greenlee and Hannah Roth, and senior Annie Obrecht. In the open race, RPCS finished in 4th place. In reflecting on her last cross-country season, captain Annie Obrecht says, “During cross country this year we pushed ourselves with longer distances and more hills than in years past. However, it all paid off at championships when the team got sixth and had a lot of personal records.” The season was one full of improvement, fun, and bonding.
Tennis:
Both the JV and Varsity tennis teams had very successful seasons this fall, with 6-1 and 5-3 records, respectively. There is no doubt that the team’s success is due to the players’ unwavering effort to improve and a fantastic coaching staff--Coach Wong, Coach Song, and Coach Carmona--that translated this effort into commendable tennis. A team highlight from the season was prevailing against Bryn Mawr on their senior day with the victorious score of 3-2. Co-captain and senior Kenna Mitchell says, “The tennis season was so fun this year and all of the players were mutually so excited to get back to a normal season. We were all able to bond with each other and DOMINATED on the courts.”
