Fashion: Springing into this Seasons Trends

By Makenzie Pridgen

Although it feels like winter lasted forever, spring is here, which calls for a shift in fashion! After bundling up in layers, warm weather is approaching, allowing for different styles to emerge.

Let’s talk colors, patterns, and more. Now is the time to explore more fun options. When in doubt, think bright. This can include shades of yellow, orange, pink, green, or even nude can be an option. For patterns, you can consider stripes or floral designs. Items that are sheer or mesh are also super fun for this time of the year. Knitwear is another good breathable option for that in-between weather: sweaters or shirts with holes.

A change in season makes room for a change in styles. Items like miniskirts, biker shorts, or low-rise jeans will continue to make an appearance. Something that has also had a rise to fame is the infamous cutout. Cutouts can be seen in dresses as well as tops and are simple ways to make an outfit pop. They give a certain edge to the look rather than having just a plain top or dress. Other items like crop tops and tanks will be more prevalent, as well as long or midi dresses. These styles are perfect for that vacation feel and can create a more elegant or conservative look.

Now that we’ve gone through the different styles and designs arising this spring let’s look more into tips for styling these items. The first tip is to add light layers on colder days. During the fall and winter, with colder weather, it was effortless to play with layering to make an outfit more interesting. Now, it may be harder to layer with the fear of being hot, but layering can be as simple as putting a tank top over a t-shirt or even a sheer top over a bright-colored one. Spring can seem very restrictive when it comes to fashion, but the key is to get creative and think outside of the box.

Jeans are still acceptable, so feel free to wear those reliable pair of jeans with every top you own. But, in case you want a change, try switching up the style. There are many options like low rise, bootcut, mom jeans, boyfriend jeans; the list goes on and on. Don’t be afraid to experiment because you might find something that will be your new go-to. Moving forward with bottoms, baggy pants can also be a great and airy option for the warm weather. They can also be paired with a short top or tank. Bermuda jeans are also coming back, giving off that more 90s look. Sweat shorts are another amazing option.

Make a statement. Choose one piece of clothing and let it speak for itself. Then, from that one piece, you can style around it. A good suggestion is to pair exotic tops with solid bottoms or vice versa.

Finally, accessorize, accessorize, accessorize. This cannot be stressed enough. Accessorizing will bring your outfit to a whole new level. There are so many ways you can go about this too—for example, sunglasses. Protection but make it fashionable. Different shapes are coming into style, which gives everyone unlimited options. They are also a great way to bring out a certain color within your outfit or just make it more fun. Mini purses or baseball caps are also a very simple option to add something to an outfit. Add lots of jewelry. This can be one of the easiest ways to elevate an outfit. A tip is to layer the jewelry to make up for the loss of layering within the actual outfit. You can stack necklaces and bracelets. If you have multiple piercings, play around with the different types of jewelry used. Personally, gold is the way to go. But also, don’t be afraid to add color with or to your jewelry. This could be as simple as having a green-colored ring to match your green shirt. Also, stomach beads are becoming more popular and can be worn with an outfit showing the midriff or even if you want to spice up your bathing suit.

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new this season. Be bold but be you. It is always good to experiment with new pieces and styles to determine what is best for you. You always look your best when you feel your best.
