With the seasons changing there can be a lot of confusion and many doubts on what to wear. It can seem a little challenging attempting to keep up with all of the evolving styles and trends. There is no need to worry, because here are some trends and tips to keep everyone styling and up to date!
Trends
Colors:
Of course, there are the typical “fall colors” like orange or red. Many of these colors tend to be neutral. Brown is definitely the color of the year; it is very trendy and, believe it or not, goes with so many colors. This could include pink, blue, green, and more. You also can’t forget the reliable black. But, even with these neutral colors, don’t be afraid to add pops of more saturated colors. Fall should restrict your color options. There are so many colors that are “acceptable” to wear. Neutral leaning, as well as lime greens, and other bright colors have become very popular and can be styled in many different ways.
Closet Staples:
Closet staples are “must have” items that enhance your wardrobe. These are the basics and things to have as a base to further elevate your style. A list of closet staples includes doc martens/boots, leather jackets, white tees, converse, a good pair of jeans, a basic black or white turtleneck, matching sweatsuits, white or off-white button-ups, and clogs – yes, they’re coming back.
What’s in style:
Throwback is not so much in the past anymore! The 2000s are coming back with a rise in Y2K fashion. This includes saturated colors, low-waisted bottoms, and even spaghetti strap bedazzled tanks. Other “retro” styles have been appearing and are back from the dead out in full force. You can see these styles, such as 70s hippy, 80s preppy, and 90s grunge, being worn by teens. Try experimenting with the baggy street style look as seen by some of your favorite celebrities. With a rise in popularity due to influencers, headphones and cord-connected earbuds are now a very fashionable accessory. Very big on TikTok are faux freckles as well as overlined cupid’s bow. So cute! Straight leg pants, flared, and boyfriend jeans have also been super trendy. And lastly, the infamous chunky white sneakers; you either love ‘em or you hate ‘em
Tips
How to pair clothes:
One vastly important element of fashion is LAYERING. Layering brings new dimensions to your outfits and can make a style more unique to the wearer. Layers can be made using collared shirts, vests, sweaters, jackets, and fall only broadens the options for what to wear. Layering adds to silhouette diversity and brings unique dimensions and lengths to a look. It can either go from small to big, like adding a half-zipped jacket over a shirt, or from big to small, such as adding a vest over your favorite long-sleeved blouse. While going from big to small can be more difficult for those with limited wardrobes. Try using both techniques, either separately or in the same look, for increased contrast. Be careful not to cover up too much of your look when adding larger layers atop one another. The visual impact of an outfit also pertains to textures. Different materials can serve to add contrast and patterns even with blander or monochromatic color pallets. Natural wear, like ripped or torn pieces, are also interesting elements of texture. Cotton, denim, netting, spandex, leather, and wool are all examples of great textiles which can be used in tandem.
How to elevate your style:
Personalization and identity in fashion are what make your style yours. That being said, learning to be adventurous and take risks in fashion can highlight personal style identity and teach you how to be bold and exude confidence through fashion. Think outside the box, and you might surprise yourself.
Using different silhouettes or just trying something new adds meaningful diversity to personal style. From form-fitting bodysuits to oversized shirts and pants, the silhouette can determine the tone of an outfit and is something to be considered with a unique style. Accessories can be imperative to the success and identity of an outfit. They do much more than just embellish your look and can help increase the cohesion of colors in a fit. For example, a great pair of sunglasses go a long way, and greatly enhance an outfit. Moreover, color goes throughout an outfit, working with accessories and patterns to create a more unified appearance. Pick one or more accent color(s), either based on a pattern, given clothes, or just your imagination. Use the color(s) from head to toe to accent the outfit, which serves as the base of the look. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors that you wouldn’t normally put together and learn how to use vibrant patterns instead of shoving them to the back of a drawer. Try using complementary or seasonal colors, or just get creative and make up your own colorful combinations.
Outfit ideas:
“Cute n Simple”
Stick to the basics of a white shirt and blue jeans and add more flair through accessories like jewelry. Spice up your outfit by working with what you have, tie up your shirt, tuck in your jeans, tuck your shirt upwards to make it cropped; there are a million options! Add a pop of color with funky socks or shoes, or keep it simple with sneaks/docs. Accessorize as needed; fall weather brings more opportunities for accessories like hats, gloves, leg warmers, and scarves. Finish with a jacket of your choice and simple eye makeup, such as skinny winged liner in black or brown, and mascara. Blush and a natural lip contribute to a wearable everyday look. Still, don’t be afraid to add your own personal flair.
“Business/Model-off-duty”
A simple monochromatic sweatsuit is an item that can give your wardrobe a variety of options. For a model-off-duty or casual business outfit, pair it with an oversized jacket for added layers, whether that may be a blazer, leather, or a different material. In addition, excess gold jewelry like chunky hoops and layered necklaces contribute to the model off-duty image. For a more casual look, go light on makeup, using natural looking enhancers like blush, highlighter, and light mascara.
“Fall fashionista”
Leather works great for fall fashion and comes in a variety of colors. Try a black or brown leather skirt. Pair with a jacket, whether it be an entirely different color, like a green or burgundy, or a color that matches the skirt. Using a material more than once can add interest, so don’t shy away from a leather jacket. Funky tights with patterns or texture, like rips or crochet, can add visual appeal. Along with your leather skirt, leather jacket, and funky tights, add an intense yet neutral makeup look. Fall works with earth tones, meaning an opportunity for darker yet natural makeup. Start with black pencil eyeliner and blend out with a grey-blue or dark brown eyeshadow just above the upper lashes and below the lower waterline. Blending brown eyeshadow, that is slightly darker than your skin tone, in the crease will also make the eyes pop more. Adding highlighter or light shadow in the inner corner can add contrast and a subtle pop to the overall look. If looking for an accent of color, add a color used in your outfit to the inner corner of your eye, and blend out in place of highlighter. A brown leaning neutral lip with slightly darker lip liner can even out the intensity of this look.
