Eyes & Ears of the School: Mr. Shaun

By Ryan Greathouse

Mr. Shaun has been a part of the RPCS community for 10 years now. During that time, he has continuously made an enormous impact on our community. The following quotes came from RPCS students detailing Mr. Shaun, his role, and his ongoing impact.

Katie Currie, a junior at RPCS said “He is a really nice guy, and he puts a lot of care into his job. It’s not his job to be kind and know the students but he goes the extra mile when he doesn’t need to. I want him to know that we appreciate the work that he puts into the school. He is nice and he cares.” Katie also recalled a recent encounter with Mr. Shaun, and she said, “A memory is that the other day he saw me in the hallway and noticed how I had gotten taller, and it shows how he pays attention to students throughout their time at Roland Park.”

Mary Mazzuli, a junior, shared that “A memory is that whenever I was in lower school in the lunchroom, whenever he saw us he would wave and say hello.”

“Whenever I see him he is always smiling and asking how people's day is. He is always uplifting. Three words I would use are endearing, kind, and selfless,” said Sanaa Jamison, a junior, when asked about three words she would use to describe Mr. Shaun. When Sanaa was asked what message she would want to relay to him, she said, “Thank you for keeping the school running.”

Mr. Shaun describes his role at RPCS as being a person for everybody in the community and being the eyes and ears of the building. When asked to say a bit about himself, he said one of his favorite hobbies is detailing vehicles, and his favorite seasons are summer and winter.

Some of Mr. Shaun’s favorite things about RPCS are the people and community. He said, “The people, everybody here makes my day. If it wasn't for you guys I wouldn’t have a job here. I came in as a temp and worked my way up. I have been working hard, saving up, taking care of my mother, and taking care of my family. I’m here for everybody, and Roland Park is like my family. This is like my second home.”

Along with that, he also gave some words of advice, which were “Remember in life you gotta have the passion for something that you want to do, and love the thing that you want to do in order to succeed.” Mr. Shaun has lived by this saying, and has demonstrated how passion and dedication are important factors when it comes to success. To encompass all that Mr. Shaun does and why he does it he added that “A clean school means better education.”

As a community, we cannot thank Mr. Shaun enough for all he has done for the school, faculty, and students.
